The Directorate General of Commerce of the European Commission (DG Trade) has awarded Taric SAU, part of the WiseTech Global group, a three-year contract as content provider for one of its most important projects for the development of commercial trade of goods between the EU and the other countries: the EU Trade Helpdesk. The EU Trade Helpdesk website is one of the main tools developed by the Commission to facilitate the import and marketing of products in the EU from other countries. It provides updated information on non-tariff requirements (sanitary, phytosanitary, environmental, technical, etc.), as well as VAT and excise duties information, in the 28 member states.
A simple search form allows the user to enter the country of origin, the destination member state and the Combined Nomenclature code of a product. The Helpdesk will provide detailed information about the specific requirements that this product must meet to be imported and marketed in the EU, including relevant legal aspects on which these requirements are based. Also, applicable VAT and excise rates in the destination member state are displayed.
Behind the scenes, the functionality of the import requirements and internal taxes sections of the Trade Helpdesk involves over 9,400 individual files which need to be interlinked and related to particular Combined Nomenclature codes. Under the awarded contract, Taric SAU will manage the revision and updating of this information, on a quarterly basis.
Taric SAU has been the content provider in this project since its creation in 2004, winning the regular public call for tenders.
After over three decades of activity, Taric SAU operates with more than two thousand companies linked to international merchandise trade and transport, logistics and the customs sector, to which it provides software products and training and consulting services.
